Junge Grüne Träume
Frau Yigit and Mrs. Twitty were invited to Washington, D.C. in December to learn more about the “Our Sustainable Future” competition from the Goethe-Institut. We want to congratulate our 4th Grade German Immersion students for working hard on their “Young Green Dreams” project. The students wanted to inspire all Deerfield students and staff to help our planet. They researched sustainability, created a Google Slides presentation and video in English and in German, presented to all grade levels at Deerfield in English and local high school students in German, and chose projects for each grade level to complete based on the science standards. The video created to show the entire project is in German. We hope this project inspires people outside of Deerfield to help create a sustainable future. This is just the beginning! The school will be notified if we have been chosen as one of the winners by April 1st. Winners from around the world will be invited to have two teachers and three students from their school attend a sustainability conference in Berlin, Germany.
Special thanks to:
Mrs. Orlick for all her work on the rock garden and bottle cap mural.
Mr. Mike and Mr. Chuck for working hard on the gardens, nature trail, and putting up our bluebird houses.
Mrs. Belinda and Mrs. Tracey for their help with the Share Table in the cafeteria.

St. Martin's Tag
On November 11th, the German immersion students of DES celebrated the life of St. Martin which is celebrated in Germany with processions and bonfires, as well as a feast. Children make their own paper lanterns, fasten them to sticks, and walk the neighborhoods singing songs. Often they are led by someone dresses in a St. Martin outfit.
St. Martin is best known for the story of how he cut his cloak in half during a snowstorm and gave it to a beggar.
Tag der Deutschen Einheit (2019)
